HAIKU
HAIKU
// VIDEO - 2024
Following the 3 part format of a haiku, this piece is an abstracted and heart felt "i love you" to a dying mall. The video was shot on a quiet weekday in the woodbine center, a place where i spent countless hours as a child, and watched shift into disarray. Haiku was filmed on an old DSLR I purchased in 2011, which was loved deeply and damaged irreversibly. Together, the space and camera tell the story of degrading consumer goods and the nostalgia of forgotten spaces.
Audio for the piece was created through a mix of iphone recordings from the past several years, ambient sounds from within the mall itself, and synth.
Visual aesthetics were achieved through masking and inversions, alongside the cameras low resolution.
