PATTERN RECOGNITION
PATTERN RECOGNITION
// mixed media Stop motion - 2020
Pattern Recognition is experimental video project inspired by the repetitions of patterns and structures we see in natural biology across various scales. The video follows the transition of a bodily forms decomposition as it shifts into a watery environment, mimicing single celled organisms.This video is part of a larger body of work centered around natural biology and relating human experiences to non human forms.
PATTERN RECOGNITION was created from a desire to explore different materials, and approaches to mixed media video. The hollowed out human was shaped from clay and used as a mold for silicon. The spider was created from foam, wires and string. Other animated bits like the worms, organs, and mushrooms were made from polymer clay. String, plastic pieces, and hair conditioner were used to create texture.
The entire piece was filmed on a makeshift animation set during lockdown, and shot using dragon frame. Each animated segment was then blended overtop digital imagery to create a mixed media environment. backgrounds include microscopic footage and a bodily photograph animated to appear as though its breathing.
Audio was made through a mix of sampled sounds.
